The Harbour Control Tower at Barangaroo Reserve has been removed. What was it and why was it removed?

The Harbour Control Tower was an 87-metre concrete tower at Barangaroo Reserve, historically used to control shipping movements in and out of Port Jackson.

Deconstruction of the tower began in early 2016 and will be completed by mid-2017. Its removal will complete the naturalistic interpretation of the original headland. A heritage interpretation plan for the Tower has been put in place, ensuring the history is preserved for generations to come.

The deconstruction method has been selected by the Authority to have minimal impact on local residents, businesses and visitors to Barangaroo Reserve. Almost 100% of the materials from the Tower are being recycled.
