There was a huge amount of sandstone used in the construction of Barangaroo Reserve. Where did it come from?

More than 10,000 sandstone blocks were used during construction of Barangaroo Reserve, with 93 per cent excavated from the Reserve. 6,500 sandstone blocks now line the harbour foreshore at Barangaroo Reserve. Excavation took a year and every grain was utilised, with all off-cuts ground down for use as sandy top soil on the headland.

The excavation site is now Barangaroo’s largest venue, the Cutaway.
